The Port Aransas Ferry, operated by TxDOT, provides free, 24/7 service connecting Aransas Pass to Mustang Island. The crossing takes less than 10 minutes, but peak season/weekend wait times can exceed an hour.

• Wait Times: Generally low, but can be 1+ hours during peak, summer, or holiday weekends.
• Location: Connects SH 361 between Aransas Pass and Port Aransas.
• Vehicle Capacity: Up to 6 ferries operate.  Standard ferries hold up to 20 passenger vehicles, while newer models can accommodate 28.
• Size Limits: Maximum vehicle dimensions are 80' long, 13' wide, and 13' 6" high. Weight Limits: Maximum overall weight is 80,000 lbs.
• Scenic View: A short, enjoyable trip that often includes sightings of dolphins and large ships.

Vehicle & Passenger Rules

• Onboard Rules: Engines must be turned off, parking brakes set, and windows rolled down slightly. Smoking is strictly prohibited.
• Pedestrians: Walking passengers are welcome and can board from either side.
• Pets:  Pets are allowed but must remain in vehicles, with the exception of service animals. Pedestrians with leashed dogs may stand at the back of the ferry.
