Hotel, Motel Occupany Tax Advisory Committee

The city council does hereby establish an advisory committee for the purpose and with the responsibility to make recommendations to the city council as to adopted procedures, rules and regulations reasonably necessary to effectively collect the tax levied herein and the disbursement of the hotel-motel tax revenues collected in accord with the purposes stated herein.

The advisory committee shall be composed of seven (7) primary and one (1) alternate member. The city council shall appoint as primary members one (1) at-large member, two (2) members from the business community, two (2) members from the condominium owners or operators and two (2) members from owners or operators of motels-hotels. The city council shall also appoint four (4) alternates to the advisory committee representing one (1) from each of the respective endeavors or categories heretofore provided. Members and alternates shall be appointed for terms of office of two (2) years. All members must be registered voters of the city, and no member shall also serve as an officer, agent, employee, or director of any entity that receives any funding derived from the city hotel/motel occupancy tax (with the exception of board members presently serving, who shall be allowed to complete their current terms of office), nor shall any of them receive any such tax funds for their benefit.

The membership of the advisory committee shall elect a chairman annually, any such chairman not to serve two (2) consecutive years as chairman.

Upon expiration of each term of office, the city council shall appoint members as hereinabove provided.

The committee will meet at least once a calendar quarter. The chairperson or other person authorized shall provide at least quarterly to the city council a report on the activities of the committee. That report shall be in person or in writing as determined by the city council. If a member is absent from the quarterly meeting on three (3) consecutive occasions, excluding absences excused by the city council, he shall automatically be disqualified to further serve. Alternatives shall automatically replace and fulfill the term of office of the vacated position.
